Jatinangor, June 12, 2026 – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), Universitas Padjadjaran, through its International Affairs Unit, successfully continued the second day of the OCEAN (Overseas Career, Exchange & Abroad Networking) International Week FPIK 2026. As part of the Ocean Academy: Global Readiness Coaching Series, the event was conducted virtually via Zoom and brought together students, alumni, and professionals with international experience. Under the theme “Build Your Global Futures,” OCEAN 2026 aims to equip students with the knowledge, inspiration, and skills necessary to prepare for the challenges of higher education and professional careers in the global arena.
On its second day, OCEAN 2026 featured two main sessions: “Study Abroad Unfiltered” and “Global Careers: Working Without Borders.” These sessions were designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of studying abroad and pursuing careers in the international professional landscape. Through the firsthand experiences shared by the speakers, participants gained valuable insights into the opportunities, challenges, and preparations required to pursue academic and professional opportunities on a global scale.
The fourth session, “Study Abroad Unfiltered,” featured two distinguished alumni of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, who successfully obtained prestigious international scholarships: Kirana Agustina, a Chevening Scholar currently pursuing her studies at University College London, United Kingdom, and Raisya Azzahra, a Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Awardee currently studying at Hanyang University, South Korea.
During the session, both speakers shared their journeys in determining their study destinations, exploring various scholarship opportunities, and preparing essential application documents, including curriculum vitae, motivation letters, personal statements, and letters of recommendation. They also explained how strong academic achievements, organizational involvement, leadership experience, and foreign language proficiency became key factors in successfully navigating the highly competitive scholarship selection process.
In addition to discussing the scholarship application process, the speakers shared their experiences as international students. They spoke about the challenges of adapting to different cultures, academic systems, new environments, and effective time management. They emphasized that studying abroad not only enhances academic competence but also broadens global perspectives, expands international networks, and fosters independence, adaptability, and self-confidence.
The discussion was highly interactive, with enthusiastic participation from the audience. Participants raised various questions regarding the experiences of pursuing higher education as international students. Through this session, attendees gained practical knowledge and valuable insights that can help them prepare for future study abroad opportunities while strengthening their competitiveness in the international academic environment.
The fifth session, “Global Careers: Working Without Borders,” shifted the discussion toward career development in the global workforce. The session featured three professionals with extensive international experience: Alfinna Yebelanti from Ozean (Europe), Dhylaga Ruzhar, General Manager of Golden Corporation Brunei, and Wildan Ghifary from Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara.
Drawing from their professional experiences, the speakers highlighted that success in today’s global workplace requires a balance between technical expertise and essential soft skills. In addition to mastering knowledge in their respective fields, they emphasized the importance of effective communication, critical thinking, teamwork in multicultural environments, adaptability, and a commitment to lifelong learning as key competencies for building successful international careers.
The speakers also shared their experiences with international recruitment processes, collaborating with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds, and building professional networks that support long-term career development. They encouraged students to take advantage of international opportunities such as student exchange programs, international internships, research collaborations, volunteer activities, and international conferences as valuable stepping stones toward developing global experience and enhancing their competitiveness.
Throughout both sessions, participants demonstrated great enthusiasm through active discussions. This was reflected in the wide range of questions raised regarding scholarship opportunities, the experiences of international students, global career prospects, and the competencies required to compete in the era of globalization. The dynamic interaction highlighted the growing interest among students of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, in developing themselves through international academic and professional experiences.
Through the organization of OCEAN International Week FPIK 2026, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, once again reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the internationalization of higher education while preparing graduates with global competitiveness. Through various initiatives under the Ocean Academy: Global Readiness Coaching Series, FPIK continues to expand students’ access to international information, global networks, and opportunities for academic and professional development around the world.
The event also aligns with the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by improving access to international learning opportunities and educational information, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by strengthening students’ readiness to enter the global workforce, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration and partnerships among universities, alumni, professionals, and international institutions.
Through OCEAN 2026, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, hopes to inspire more students to broaden their horizons, seize international opportunities, and confidently pursue their academic and professional aspirations on the global stage. In line with the theme “Build Your Global Futures,” the event is expected to serve as a platform that empowers students to build internationally competitive futures while making meaningful contributions to sustainable development at both the national and global levels.
