The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), Universitas Padjadjaran, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy through community engagement programs focusing on Blue Carbon. Implemented in Babakan Village, Pangandaran, the program aims to educate local communities about the critical role of coastal ecosystems in promoting clean energy and mitigating climate change.
Through initiatives such as the Blue Carbon Community Service Program and the Blue Carbon for Productive Conservation Socialization, local residents were introduced to the concept of Blue Carbon—highlighting the capacity of mangroves, seagrasses, and coastal wetlands to absorb and store carbon, thus contributing to emission reduction. The program also emphasized the importance of community participation in preserving and sustainably utilizing coastal ecosystems to support the transition toward clean energy and greater environmental awareness.
By conducting this program, FPIK Unpad not only focuses on ecosystem conservation but also facilitates the transfer of knowledge to local communities, encouraging environmentally friendly practices and low-emission lifestyles. This initiative represents a concrete step by the Faculty in advancing sustainable development and contributing to the global agenda on clean and affordable energy.
