The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Universitas Padjadjaran (FPIK Unpad) continues to empower students to directly contribute to sustainable community development through the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program. The 2024-2025 semester KKN engages students in real-world community service projects across various districts in West Java, implicitly addressing all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Among the highlighted activities are environmental conservation efforts, such as the Coastal Clean-Up (CCU) organized by student groups “Lepidochelys” at Batu Hiu Beach, Desa Ciliang, Pangandaran. This event, supported by NGOs, local communities, and authorities, raised awareness on marine ecosystem preservation, waste management, and protection of sea turtles (supporting SDGs 14 and 15). Waste separation for recycling and disposal was carefully managed, reflecting responsible consumption and production (SDG 12).

In other locations, students conducted empowerment programs that improve food security by introducing sustainable aquaculture techniques and enhanced natural fish feed (targeting SDG 1 and 2). Health and nutrition awareness efforts were implemented to support community well-being (SDG 3), alongside educational outreach on climate change and environmental sustainability (SDG 4, 13).

Gender equality and inclusive economic growth were promoted through community-based training, especially targeting women and vulnerable groups (SDG 5, 8, and 10). The application of technology and innovation in fisheries management, along with responsible resource utilization, further aligns with SDGs 9 and 11.

The engagement of students with local governments, NGOs, community members, and academic mentors highlights the strength of partnerships for sustainable development (SDG 17). Governance improvements and participatory community actions foster peaceful and inclusive societies (SDG 16).

In summary, through diverse activities and collaboration, FPIK Unpad’s KKN program embodies a comprehensive approach to sustainable development, embedding environmental integrity, social inclusion, and economic empowerment – covering the full range of SDGs and advancing Indonesia’s commitment to the global 2030 agenda.
