Jatinangor, November 24, 2024 – The Student Association of Fisheries, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran (HIMIKAN FPIK Unpad) successfully held the National Seminar on Sustainable Fisheries as part of its annual flagship event, Fisheries Week 11.

Now in its 11th year, Fisheries Week has become a long-standing academic tradition that provides a scientific platform for fisheries students to explore ideas, share insights, and strengthen their capacities. This year’s seminar aimed to accommodate students’ interests and potential in scientific development while broadening their perspectives on critical issues in fisheries and marine sciences.

Academic Tradition for Fisheries Students

Participants enthusiastically followed discussions on Blue Carbon, Measured Fishing, and Fishery Waste Utilization

For over a decade, Fisheries Week has served as an academic and scientific space for fisheries students at Universitas Padjadjaran.

“This national seminar is not only a discussion forum but also a medium for students to connect with policymakers and experts. We aim to sharpen their knowledge on sustainability issues and inspire their contribution to real solutions in the fisheries sector,” Fhife Isfihany, project officer of Fisheries Week 11.

The seminar also featured interactive discussions and Q&A sessions, allowing participants to engage directly with experts and broaden their academic and professional networks

Contribution to the SDGs

The National Seminar of Fisheries Week 11 reflects Universitas Padjadjaran’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth): fostering new opportunities in the blue and circular economy.
  • SDG 13 (Climate Action): climate change mitigation through blue carbon ecosystems.
  • SDG 14 (Life Below Water): sustaining marine resources through measured fishing policies.
  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): collaboration among students, academics, government, and communities.

Through the National Seminar Fisheries Week 11, HIMIKAN FPIK Unpad hopes to inspire students and stakeholders alike to advance sustainable fisheries practices.

“Fisheries Week stands as a symbol of student commitment to sustainable fisheries. By combining academic knowledge, government policy, and innovative practices, we aim to nurture a young generation dedicated to protecting Indonesia’s marine resources,” concluded the organizing committee.
