
The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran (FPIK Unpad), proudly organized the 15th National Seminar of the Indonesian Society of Fisheries Product Processing (MPHPI) and the 16th Scientific Meeting, held on October 16–17, 2024, at Bale Sawala, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor Campus. The event served as an important platform for knowledge exchange and innovation in the fisheries product processing industry, with active participation from academics, students, and practitioners across Indonesia.

On October 16, the Scientific Meeting took place at the Plenary Room, Building 1, FPIK Unpad. Carrying the theme “Keberlanjutan Industri Pengolahan Kelautan dan Perikanan yang Berdaya Saing melalui Hilirisasi dan Komersialisasi Produk” the program was divided into two main sessions., focusing on graduate profiles, competencies, and specialized courses for the national curriculum development of the Fisheries Product Technology (THP) study program throughout Indonesia.
The second day, Thursday, October 17, 2024, featured the 15th National Seminar of MPHPI, held at Bale Sawala, Unpad Rectorate Building, along with an exhibition showcasing innovative marine and fisheries-based products. The seminar was officially opened by Unpad Rector, represented by Vice Rector IV for Organization and Planning, Prof. Drs. Yanyan Mochamad Yani, MAIR., Ph.D.
Keynote presentations were delivered by:
- Dr. Budi Sulistiyo, M.Sc., Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fisheries Products, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) RI, who discussed the role of MPHPI in supporting government policies to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s fisheries industry.
- Prof. Dr. Ir. Nurjanah, MS, Chairperson of MPHPI, who emphasized the importance of downstreaming in advancing the fisheries processing industry.
- Hendra Sugandhi, Director of Partnership Development and Market Access, MPHPI, who elaborated on product downstreaming and commercialization for a competitive blue economy.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Junianto, Professor of Fisheries Product Processing, Universitas Padjadjaran, who shared insights on innovative fisheries product processing to strengthen Indonesia’s blue economy.

The seminar attracted participants from diverse backgrounds, including lecturers, students, and fisheries processing practitioners from across the country. In addition, 83 research and poster presenters contributed to the academic discussions, while strategic partners of MPHPI showcased their innovations through 20 product exhibition booths.




Through this national seminar, MPHPI aims to foster stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and government to accelerate downstreaming of Indonesian fisheries products. Such initiatives are expected to support national food security, open opportunities for international markets, and improve the competitiveness of the fisheries processing industry. Moreover, the seminar highlighted the role of innovation and downstreaming in enhancing value-added products, ensuring marine resource sustainability, and improving the welfare of fisheries industry stakeholders within the framework of a sustainable blue economy.
