Jatinangor, 8 September 2024 – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) has reinforced its commitment to environmental responsibility by strengthening laboratory waste management practices in line with the university’s Environmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
The program ensures proper segregation, storage, and disposal of chemical and biological waste, with all hazardous materials processed responsibly through certified waste management partners. These measures are designed to protect both the academic community and the surrounding environment while maintaining safe and sustainable research activities.
In addition to technical implementation, FPIK emphasizes education and awareness. Students and researchers receive training on laboratory safety, efficient resource use, and environmentally friendly approaches to scientific work. This initiative embeds sustainability values into daily academic operations and research practices.
“Managing laboratory waste is not only a technical necessity but also an ethical responsibility,” said a faculty representative. “Through consistent implementation of SOPs, we are protecting both the academic community and the environment while setting a positive example for other institutions.”
By aligning research excellence with responsible waste management, FPIK Unpad demonstrates its broader vision of integrating environmental care into higher education, contributing to a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future.
