Jatinangor, September 11, 2024 – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) at Universitas Padjadjaran is committed to supporting the university’s green campus program by strengthening efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Referring to Unpad’s carbon footprint calculation, which highlights electricity consumption as the main contributor to emissions, FPIK has initiated an internal energy-saving program.
One of the key measures is managing electricity use in classrooms, laboratories, and faculty facilities, such as reducing excessive use of air conditioners and optimizing natural ventilation. In addition, FPIK promotes energy-saving behavior by encouraging the habit of switching off lights and electronic devices when not in use.
To support this behavioral change, FPIK has placed eye-catching reminder stickers in every room, helping lecturers, students, and staff develop awareness of energy efficiency. These simple steps are expected to cut electricity consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emissions generated from fossil-fuel-based energy use.
According to the faculty leadership, small initiatives like these not only help lower the campus carbon footprint but also serve as practical learning for students on the importance of sustainability. “We want FPIK students to not only understand theories of aquatic resource management but also practice environmentally friendly habits in their daily lives,” they stated.
FPIK’s continuous efforts are expected to become a tangible example of sustainability implementation at the faculty level, while also supporting Universitas Padjadjaran’s long-term target to gradually reduce carbon emissions.
