Jatinangor, December 1, 2024 – Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) continues to strengthen its commitment to creating a healthy, safe, and sustainable learning environment by supporting the implementation of a Smoke-Free Campus Area.

In line with Unpad’s vision to promote health and sustainability, signs and regulations prohibiting smoking in the campus area have been put in place, including at FPIK. This initiative is expected to raise awareness among students, lecturers, staff, and visitors about the importance of maintaining a clean and smoke-free academic environment.

Raising Awareness for a Healthy Campus

The placement of “No Smoking” signs in strategic locations within the FPIK building and surrounding environment serves as a reminder for all campus residents to comply with the smoke-free area policy. This step is also in line with global health campaigns that aim to reduce smoking rates, protect non-smokers from exposure to cigarette smoke, and prevent long-term health risks caused by tobacco.

Contribution to SDGs

The establishment of smoke-free zones on campus is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being): ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all by reducing exposure to cigarette smoke.
  • SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): creating safe, resilient, and sustainable campus environments.

Unpad hopes that the implementation of smoke-free areas can become a shared culture among students and academic staff, fostering a healthier, cleaner, and more sustainable academic environment.

The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences proudly supports this policy and invites the entire Unpad community to actively participate in maintaining a smoke-free campus.
